Emerald Isle

Located between at the western end of Bogue Banks, and overlooking Bogue Inlet and Sound, in Carteret County. is home to about 3,488 residents. Known as a family-oriented vacation beach, as many as 50,000 visitors inhabit the area during the summer season

There are no oceanfront hotels because the original developers wanted Emerald Isle to be family-oriented, and limited commercial development and mobile homes to five blocks each. Seven individuals purchased the 12-mile island In 1951, for $350,000, divided Emerald Isle into 54 blocks. In 1971 the Cameron Langston Bridge was opened spanning the Intracoastal Waterway and provided access from Cedar Point to the western end of Bogue Banks and Emerald Isle.
