Also known as the Port City, Wilmington North Carolina is located in the southeastern corner of North Carolina between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean.The city has more than 99,000 residents and is the county seat of New Hanover County. Incorporated in 1739 Wilmington was named in honor of Spencer Compton, Earl of Wilmington

 
 

TV shows such as Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill were filmed here and is the home of .Screen Gem Studios. Over 180 movies have been filmed in Wilmington. It has become a popular destination because of its moderate, four-season climate, historic preservation district, annual events such as Riverfest and the Azalea Festival and numerous championship golf courses. It is also home to the World War II Battleship USS North Carolina, now a war memorial. The ship is open to public tours and is anchored across from the downtown port area.

The Wilmington International Airport serves the area with commercial air service provided by Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines and US Airways. The airport is also home to two fixed base operations which currently house over 100 private aircraft. The airport maintains a separate International Terminal providing a full service Federal Inspection Station to clear international flights. This includes U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Dept of Agriculture and the U.S. Dept of Immigration. The airport is 4 miles from downtown
