Crystal Coast NC The Crystal Coast includes the beaches of Emerald Isle, Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores, and Indian Beach. This is the only vacation destination in the state with a National Forest, National Seashore and State Park all in the same county. Visit Fort Macon and see a Civil War reenactment. Beaufort has the North Carolina Maritime Museum and Pine Knoll Shores is the location of the North Carolina Aquarium at or visit the Rachel Carson Reserve. Known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” the Crystal Coast is one of the top shipwreck diving destinations in the country Local dive shops can handle everything from lessons and certification to all-day trips to interesting and exciting wrecks. Most of the Crystal Coast beach communities are located on Bogue Bank. A barrier island approximately 25.4 miles long. Public access to most of the beaches are on NC Highway 58. Public Beach Access areas are marked with signs that feature blue letters and a sea gull flying in an orange circle. Some access points offer restroom and shower facilities. The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, houses artifacts recovered from the Queen Anne's Revenge, Blackbeard the Pirate's ship. as well as hundreds of other items relating to maritime artifacts. The North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is also a major visitors attraction and worth visiting. Fort Macon, a five-sided fort that has seen service in many conflicts, including the Civil War and World War II. Civil War buffs are sure to love the Crystal Coast where history lingers in almost every town. |
