Corolla Beach North Carolina was first called Jones Hill, and was also known as Whalehead or Currituck Beach. Corolla, located on NC Outer Banks, took the name Corolla in 1895 when a post office opened in the community. The name actually refers to the botanic term for the petals of a flower. Development began in 1967 and continued south. Today highway NC-12 Leads into Corolla. Corolla’s beaches are clean and wide with fine sand, and gradual slope to the ocean. It is not a big recreational draw and does not have the large commercial district or super stores, but amenities required are available. Shopping centers, restaurants, movies, grocery stores, a golf course, tennis, and attractions are available. |
